APC operates with honesty and welcomes transparency in communications, transactions and relationships. This includes sharing information, skills, knowledge and in the rewards of success.

Our clients tell us we operate with refreshing business integrity. Without this level of care, true success doesn’t happen. We acknowledge that all of these principles set a high bar. To achieve it, APC is constantly striving for a higher level of quality and excellence from our employees and for our clients.

We hold individuals, suppliers and partners personally responsible for their actions and for advancing APC’s reputation as an honest and fair strategic partner.

APC team members possess a tremendous amount of talent and are lead by the following individuals:

Roy Roberts, Founder

Alliance of Professionals & Consultants, Inc. (APC) was founded in 1993 by Roy Roberts after he retired from IBM. Today, APC remains committed to the same core values that Roy first put forth and that continue to anchor the company’s success – solid ethics, unwavering integrity, open communications, empathic caring, and a constant focus on quality and excellence.

Roy spent the majority of his career with the IBM Corporation from 1968 until 1993, when he left to start Alliance of Professionals & Consultants, Inc. He firmly believed in APC’s vision of positively impacting people’s lives which lead to growing APC to over 700 professionals during his lifetime. In addition to running APC, he supported economic development training for the Lumbee and Cherokee Nations which led to the founding of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of North Carolina.

A lifelong learner, Roy earned a BS from Brescia University, an MBA from Butler University and a PhD-equivalent from IBM’s Systems Research Institute. In 2018, Roy and his wife, Vicki, furthered their commitment to education with the establishment of the Roy and Victoria Duffy Roberts Center for the Sciences at Brescia University.

Active in a variety of Native American-minded business organizations, Roy served on the U. S. Department of Commerce’s National Advisory Council on Minority Business Enterprise, on the Board of Trustees of Brescia University, was President of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of North Carolina, and served as a mentor to several minority entrepreneurs. He was selected as 2012 Southern Business Leader of the Year and 2009 Triangle Business Leader of the Year by Business Leader Media, and received the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.

APC has been recognized by Fortune, Forbes, Inc. 500, and has won numerous awards, such as the 2016 Minority Professional Services Firm of the Year and 2008-2009 National Minority Service Firm of the Year by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce and the 2007-2008 Supplier of the Year by the CMSDC.

At APC, we are always looking for ways to improve our communities, the business world, and our operations. These are some of our key corporate initiatives:

Quality is an essential fiber of APC. It is fundamental to our success and directly impacts the success of our employees and clients.

In 2004, APC extended its quality commitment by becoming one of a few, elite professional services firms to achieve an ISO 9001:2000. APC received a perfect score on its first attempt and has maintained a current certification ever since. In 2010, APC updated its certification to the ISO 9001:2008 standard. In 2017, APC updated its certification to the ISO 9001:2015 standard. The 9001:2015 certification confirms that APC complies with a defined level of quality in business activities that include documentation, recruiting, quality service processes and client satisfaction.

ISO 9001:2015 has become an international reference for quality requirements in business-to-business dealings. This distinction is used worldwide to recognize companies with proven commitment to their customers, their employees and to quality.

APC’s proven, quality focus extends beyond certifications. We take tremendous pride in our client interactions and trusted relationships. This includes being placed on the primary suppliers list at many Fortune 500 companies and having long-standing, repeat clients. In fact, APC is consistently ranked in the top 25 percent during annual supplier performance evaluations.

We are committed to equal opportunity to qualified minority- and women-owned suppliers. Since 1999, more than 49 percent of our suppliers have been MWBE suppliers who continuously access, develop and improve valued services for both clients and employees.

APC demands quality from its professionals and our team members deliver. By offering challenging assignments that leverage an individual’s skills and potential, APC is able to maintain a 15-percent employee-initiated turnover rate which is less than one-half to one-third of the industry average.

APC is committed to preserving and protecting the environment. We are responsible for our waste footprint and making conscientious choices to protect our planet. It makes good business sense, and it’s the right thing to do.

Corporate Focus

By automating more than 80 percent of our paper-intensive processes, APC has significantly reduced our paper dependencies while realizing dramatic internal efficiency. We use the Web exclusively to share documents for on-boarding new employees, time entry, payroll deposits and statements, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) invoicing and Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT) for both account receivables and payables.

Document image processing has replaced many drawers filled with paper allowing each department to process transactions, like a new hire, more quickly. APC also requests electronic faxes which facilitates easy distribution and reduces our paper and copier needs.

All marketing materials are online helping to reduce out-of-date versions and unnecessary printing while improving accessibility. And, a majority of our training is also Web-based.

Community Statement

APC cancels all unwanted catalogs, magazines and phone books. By simply removing our name from mailing lists, we save trees, the cost of sorting and distribution and the fuel used to transport items to us and then to a recycling center. This also prevents items from ever entering our overcrowded landfills.

All of the catalogs, magazines, paper and phone books that we do use are recycled. Recycle bins are provided onsite for paper, plastic and aluminum items. At our corporate headquarters, individual water bottles have been replaced with five-gallon jugs of spring water and reusable mugs.

APC also carefully monitors our energy use. All lights are energy-saving fluorescent and are turned off when not in use. Occupancy sensors have also been installed in select rooms.

APC donates old computers and equipment to charities for new uses and regularly collects old cell phones for donation to a local women’s shelter. The phones are re-purposed for emergency-only use.

APC is proud to walk the “green” walk and encourages our employees and clients to take easy, actionable steps to protect our environment. We believe they will also see cost savings and help make a larger impact in protecting our world.

At APC, we are real people who enjoy making a difference in the communities where we live and work. We also strive to be the very best at what we do. Here’s information about our community involvement and accolades:

APC has been recognized for the quality of our professionals, corporate client service and business growth. Since 1993, a dedication to core values, excellence, our professionals and our clients has helped APC achieve a variety of industry-leading awards and appear in numerous news articles and press releases.

Employee Programs

From the very beginning, our company's focus has been on positively impacting the lives of others. One way in which we do so is by recognizing the efforts and contributions of our professionals as they positively impact our clients' respective organizations, as well as APC itself. Here are some ways in which we do so:

Cornerstone Award

A cornerstone is the primary foundation upon which great buildings, monuments, and institutions are built; quality, integrity, teamwork, attitude, and excellence are the foundation upon which APC's success is built.

APC's Cornerstone Award gives both APC leadership and our client managers the opportunity to acknowledge outstanding work. The Cornerstone Award is given to individuals for whom we receive positive feedback from our client managers, including those who receive nominations for the Waya Award.

The Waya Award

The Waya Award is perhaps our most known recognition for professionals. On both a quarterly and annual basis, APC’s Waya Award honors a professional’s contributions and quality service to our client with special acknowledgement for their dedication and exemplary work.

Cherokee for “Wolf,” the Waya is a sacred animal to Native Americans and symbolizes family, teamwork, intelligence, dignity, respect, pride in work, loyalty, and success of a mission. Individuals who receive the Waya Award exemplify what it is to live these traits on a daily basis.

You can learn more about the Waya Award by visiting apcinc.com/waya.

Pass the Bucks

While participation is not limited solely to APC professionals, our Pass the Bucks program rewards individuals who help drive business growth for APC through new client referrals. Our employees are one of our best sales resources and the Pass the Bucks program provides a generous monetary award for efforts that lead to new business.

You can learn more about Pass the Bucks by visiting apcinc.com/PTB.
